A thin blonde stood alone on a vast beach, looking out at the ocean with a blank expression. How much longer? How much longer did they have to wait before they were found. Already it's been half a year and still there's been no sign of the outside world. No planes, no boats, no nothing. The woman lifted her hand to her bright blue eyes, squinting in the sunlight when she turned to look up the length of the beach in the direction of home. Home...a tent shouldn't be home, but apparently, that's what it had become.
A faint crying came to her ears, and Claire Littleton was forced from her thoughts with a jolt. She quickly began to walk back towards her tent in which her son had been sleeping. A man was sitting beside the wooden cradle with his hands resting on his knees. He had sat back calmly when he spotted the child's mother approaching, knowing it would be smart to let her deal with the infant.
"Just woke up." He said in his well known British accent as the young mother lifted the baby out and rocked him gently. "Have a nice walk, then?"
Claire looked up from the wailing Aaron and smiled. "Thank's for watching him, Charlie." She replied gratefully. "And yeah, I did, it was nice." She nodded and sat down in the warm sand, rocking the baby untill his cries stopped. Her gaze shifted back to Charlie and her smiled returned. It was nice to be able to trust him again. For the time period of a month. she had been upset with him for kidnapping Aaron, she had also been lonely for his company. Yes, that probably sounds confusing. While shunning Charlie, she had wanted him to be around her. The mixed feeling had only confused her more during that time. Then Charlie acted like Charlie and earned her trust back. Now she had no problem with leaving her son with him, in fact she felt that he was probably safest with Charlie around him.
"Claire?"Charlie asked, his tone mixed with confusion and worry. "Um...are you ok?"
It was then that she realized that she had been staring at him and she quickly looked away, nodding. "I'm fine."She replied with a light laugh, embarrassed. "I guess I was just thinking to hard again."
"Ah." Charlie replied thoughtfully, nodding his head. "Y'know...you might not want to think so hard all the time. My brother, Liam, used to think a lot...then his brain exploded."
Claire started laughing at the interesting story and Charlie grinned in triumph, having reached his goal of making her laugh. It had never been hard for Charlie to make her laugh, he just always knew the right think to say all the time. "Did he have to buy a new brain?"She finally asked, loving to hear his stories when he didn't know where they were headed.
Charlie thought for a moment then nodded his head. "Yeah, but he waited until after his daughter was born first. To long if you ask me."
Claire blinked a few times then chose not to question him. She turned her gaze to the ocean again and gasped.
The sudden gasp caused Charlie to jump. "What is it?"He asked, wondering if she was hurt.
Claire got to her feet, staring out at the water. No, it couldn't be...could it. She vaguely heard Charlie and all of his concern but she wasn't actually listening to his words. "Charlie."She said then looked at him. "Look."She pointed out at the small black dot floating on the waters surface. "A Ship!"
--
Claire shifted slowly and opened her eyes, staring up at the tent covering her. She sighed deeply and closed them again. A dream. A very very unfair dream. She sat up and rubbed her eyes with a shake of her head, looking out at the ocean longingly. She wished that a ship would come, then they wouldn't have to deal with the insainess of this island.
The gooing of her baby forced her to forget about the dream that teased her so wickedly and she turned to his crib with a smile. "Hello."She greeted, lifting her son out and cradling him in her arms. "How long have you been up?"She cooed, bouncing him slightly with a broadening smile.
Aaron only blew a spit bubble and grabbed at her neckless, sticking the pendant into his mouth with a giggle.
