NEW
August 13, the first day of school for the students at Lakewood Highschool. Bus after bus began arriving infront of the school and the students began pouring out onto the open campus in the center of all of the separate classroom buildings. Along with those busses, the senior cars also began arriving. One such car was a red Mercedese Benz, quite a bit newer then the others. Only the best for the son of the Chief of Surgury at St. Augustines Hospital.
Jack Shephard was known widly through out the school as the jock/stud who had all of the girls around his finger with just one smile. What with his wavy brown hair, naturally dreamy eyes and his popularity status, it was easy to see why everyone either wanted him or wanted her be him. He turned off his blasting rock music and slid out of the car, waving a a few people he vaugly knew as they walked by. He grabbd his leterman jacket and slid it on over his blck t-shirt with a smirk before grabbing a few of his books and a notebook. He closed his door and slid the keys into his pocket before heading onto the grass towards a group of boys at the front steps of the school, all wearing identical jackets.
--
At the opposite end of the parkinglot a simple black honda pulled up, driven by a woman in her late thirties with greying brown hair and a nice suit on. The girl in the passenger seat glanced out the window then sunk down in her seat with a frown. Her dark brown curls were down and hang around her shoulders, hiding her makeupless face from her new peers outside.
"Ok Katherine."The woman said. "This is where I have to leave you. You're new foster mother will be here to pick you up after school."She smiled and reached over, patting her knee. "Don't worry, you'll do fine."
Without responding, Kate Austen climbed out of the car with her backpack and closed the door. She looked around again, then tuged anxiously at her jean jacket that was covering her red tanktop as the car drove off, leaving her stranded at the new school for the day. She let out a deep beath and started for the office. Hopefully she could get a map or something along with her scedule, this place seemed huge.
Unlike other schools, where there was just one large building with multipule stories, this school circled a large quad covered in grass with several large trees growing here and there. The math classes were in a wing at the schools far left, one long building with around fourteen different doors. Other such wings were scattered around the outside of the quad. The Gym was out beside the football field away from the capus, along with the basketball, and tennis courts, the baceball diamond and the three swimming pools. It was obvious that the school was known for it's sports. However, taking up about as much room as the football field, was the music and art building. About two stries high with out second floors, the music building only consisted of three rooms, one for chior and the many different bands, one for drama to practice, and one for the art students.
The students of Lakewood High didn't seem as diverse as their range of activities. Almost every stupid had money, and almost every student was white. It was almost like going to a prep school. Almost.
Kate reached the edge of the grass that covered the lawn right before walking up the steps and heading ino the quad. She fidgeted for a moment then began towards them again. The only thing that was going through her mind was the thought of being in another school. She had been doing just fine at her old one, it had been her family that was the problem. Wayne and Diane, the words worst parents. She didn't even want to think about them.
She began walking up the stairs near the ouside, trying to avoid he group of boys who were all talking loudly in the center about their summer vacation. She made eye contact with one of them, just for a split second, long enough to notice his eyes were a light brown, then quickly looked down and hurried to the top of the stairs. She turned left and went into the office, breathing deeply as she tried to find the councellers room where she could get her scedule.
--
"Hey...Jack buddy, dude you ok?"Asked a boy taller than Jack with sandy blond hair that was spiked. Mike James, the captain of the basketball team, highschool hunk to all the girls, and Jack's best friend. His father was about as rich as Jacks, being th highest paid lawyer in town.
"Have you ever seen that girl before?"Jack asked, watching as the new girl with blown curls walked into the office. It was weird, she seemed familiar in someway, but he couldn't put his finger on it, like a memory he forgot about a long time ago.
"Who? Plane Jane? Nah, must be new." Mike replied. He wasn't mush for the brunettes, having always been a sucker for the blond girls who tried hard to get people to notice them. Like Shannon Rutherford. She and her steb brother Boone Carlyle had arrived only last year with her mom and his dad, both rich as hell. Shannon was already captain cheerleader, it was rare for someone to take over in just a year, but she always got what she wanted. Boone on the other hand simply joined the waterpolo and dive teams, not much for physical competition.
Jack watched as the girl vanished from sight then turned back to his friends with a shrug. "Hm, must be."He agreed then laughed at some commented that a fellow football player said.
The first bell rang and the boys and looked around before heading up the stairs, pushing eachother and laughing as they did so. Once they entered the quad and got onto the grass their shoves became a bit more whole hearted. Jack found himself being pushed back and knocking someone over behind him. He turned and stared down at the girl he had seen before. He must have looked like an idiot because he just stood there and stared at her for the longest time before his brain kicked in again.
--
Kate looked up at him from her spot on the ground with a small frown, not very happy with being knocked over like she had. She climbed to her feet and dusted off the back of her pants as the guy who knocked her down quickly bent and began picking her things up for her.
"I'm so sorry."He appologized and handed her her things. "I didn't see you there."
"Obviously."Kate frowned at him, taking her papers.
"I didn't mean to knock you down like that..."Jack continued, not paying attention to her comment. "So um..you new?"
Kate rose an eyebrow at him at the sudden subject change then rolled her eyes and walkd passed him. The last think she needed was toget mixed up with some dumb jock right now. She was, however, a bit stunned when she found him following her. "What?"She stopped and turned, looking at him.
Jack stopped as well and rose an eyebrow. "You didn't answer my question."He replied simply.
Kate just stared at him like he was stupid then rolled her eye again. "Yes, I'm new, and I don't want to be late."She said and turned, walking again.
Jack watched her go for a moment before jogging after her. "What class do you have?"He asked when he caught up to her side. He ignored the look of annoyance on her face and simply flashed her a charming smile.
"Civics."Kate relied with another roll of her eyes. "Why are you following me?"
Jack shrugged. "Just trying to be nice. Do you know where your class is?"He looked at her questioningly.
"Yes, room 15."She replied and made a sharp sudden turn into her class. She sat down and pushed her hair back from her face with a deep sigh, jumping when the same voice suddenly showed up beside her.
"What's your name?"Jack asked, stopping beside her desk and looking down at her. He didn't mean to seem rude, but he had to know before he went to class, it would drive him insane not to know her name.
Kate looked up at him and shook her head. "Kate."She said, hoping it would get him to leave her alone.
Jack smiled again and nodded. "I'm Jack."He replied then started for the door. Kate watched him leave with a cocked brow, unsure of weather she should be creeped out, or inerested. He almost acted like a lost puppy, but then again it could just have been some stupid game he and his friends were playing, bug the new girl, or something along those lines.
